I really don’t know what it is about memory games, but the kids absolutely adore them.

They are also really good at them and regularly beat me in amount of matches.

With this Movement Memory game, not only do we get to play a game they love together, but we get to move our bodies throughout the game.

This is the kind of game I like to play inside when we have a hard time getting out, or to take on trips with us when we need an easy to pack game that doesn’t have a lot of pieces or rules.

Movement Memory Skills Practiced

For being such a simple game, Movement Memory actually includes a decent amount of skills that are practiced.

Remember that based on the age of your players, they skills and abilities will look different. That’s the great part about it! There is no “keeping up” with a pace to the game as it is very turn-taking based. Don’t shy away from playing with your 2 year old all way to an 82 year old.

Skills practiced include:

  • Matching
  • Memory
  • Body Control
  • Turn Taking
  • Dexterity
  • Counting
  • Attention Span

How To Play

Movement Memory is played just like a regular memory game except that when a player makes a match, all the players get up and do that action.

To set up the game:

1. Print the memory cards (pages 2-4). There are 18 total pairs spread over 3 pages.

2. Cut out the cards. A paper cutter makes this go super quickly, or you can have your child do it to practice cutting skills with safe scissors.

3. Optional, but highly recommended: Laminate your cards. I love my laminator!

To play the game:

1.Mix up the cards.

2.Lay the cards out face down on the table or floor.

3.Player 1 flips over two cards of their choice. If they are a match, all the players do the movement and Player 1 keeps the cards. If they are not a match, the player flips them back over.

4.Continue to play this way with each player until all the matches have been found.

5.The winner has the most matchces!
