Fall Reading Journal Pin 1

I used to be a book nerd.

Like, take home a giant bag full of books from the library every single week and spend every moment I could reading – anywhere, anytime.

It makes sense that I became an English teacher and went on to get my master’s degree in Reading Intervention. I spent over 11 years in some form of reading and English education.

When I tell you my reading teacher nerd is showing in this Fall Reading Journal, I am not kidding.

The reading journal is designed to motivate reluctant readers and excite avid readers alike. With simple reading goals, inspiration on how to red for the day, thoughtful response questions, and themed trackers, your little reader will be finding books in his hands more often.

Reading Journal Bookmarks and Goal Setting

The Fall Reading Journal includes 4 printable, fall-themed bookmarks. Let your child color in these bookmarks as they prefer. Then, laminate them to use with his fall reading. Your child will absolutely love having such a personalized item to use.

When you are working with your child to set reading goals for the season, you have a quick goal setting sheet. The mission here is to keep it simple. Let your child pick their own goals that feel manageable and exciting.

Fall Reading Bingo

I loved putting this little challenge bingo challenge together. Instead of giving types of books to read, it gives your child a creative way to actually accomplish their reading goals.

Having new ways, places, and people to complete his reading makes it a little more fun for both reluctant and avid readers alike.

30 Day Reading Tracker

There are 3, 30 day trackers that loosely follow the months of September, October, and November. This is an excellent visual way for your child to mark down his reading progress.

You can choose to include these trackers in the bound journal, or post them in a public space in the house like a bulletin board or fridge.

Books Read This Fall

With space to note down 18 of his favorite books, your child can print a picture of the cover, draw it in himself, or simply write the title.

Did your child read more than 18 books? Just print another page and they have plenty of room to add their reads!

Season End Project

I had so much fun putting together the Season End Project choices. This optional activity is a creative way to think about your child’s favorite book differently.

I recommend you only do this once, at the end of the season, for one book that really stuck with your child. Get into the project with him as you help facilitate!

Fall Reading Recap

After a whole season of reading tracking, let’s add a little math into the mix of the Reading Journal with this Reading Season Recap. Have your child add up all his books, time spent reading, and reflect on his favorites.

This is a wonderful culmination to all your child’s hard work!

Reading Responses

Included in your Fall Reading Journal are 30 reading prompts. These questions are designed to be a quick way for your child to reflect on what they read in different ways.

Encourage your child to answer a response question every 3 days. You might have a reader who prefers to do it daily, which is acceptable as well! You have 30 responses and can easily print more as needed to cover the season.
